Simon Jung
Simon Jung began his VFX career as a runner in a small firm and was quickly promoted into a role as a paint box artist/compositor.
He went on to work on music videos, industrial film, commercials and European cinema before joining Wētā FX in 2003 as a compositor on The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.
His credits include King Kong, Avatar, Rise of the planet of the Apes, The Hobbit trilogy and Alita: Battle Angel.
Most recently, in his role as Visual Effects Supervisor, Simon led Wētā’s work on the HBO series The Last of Us, bringing the iconic creatures to life against a postapocalyptic US backdrop. This work earned him an Emmy Award for Outstanding Special Visual Effects.
Simon has been nominated five times for a VES award, in 2012 for his compositing work on Rise of the Planet of the Apes, in 2013 for Created Environment for his work on the Goblin Caverns featured in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, in 2015 for Compositing in The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies and in 2020 for Virtual Cinematography in Alita: Battle Angel.
He has also been nominated in the upcoming 2024 VES Awards for The Last of Us.
